Skincare: Mechanisms & System Logic

Operational protocol adapted for the Sonoran Desert: sub-15% RH, extreme UV, active outdoor & sauna exposure.

Strategic Premise

Two campaigns and a deload. Every choice bends toward one enemy: sub-15% humidity + extreme UV.

"Building without protecting is filling a leaky bucket. Protecting without building never improves the skin. Both campaigns run; the environment sets the terms."
Campaign A

AM Defends

Protect collagen from UV radiation; neutralize active oxidative damage.

Identical Daily
Campaign B

PM Renovates

Controlled demolition via targeted actives + barrier lipid replenishment.

Recovery Resets

Zero active ingredients. Full structural barrier restoration.

v3 Changelog & Red-Team Audit

Supersedes v2 (2026-07-26)
1. The 4-1-2 Grid is Final

The old fully-ramped grid ran six consecutive active nights with one deload. Wednesday BHA (attempted ~Aug 12, mid-purge) failed exactly where load math predicted: inside the longest active streak with no adjacent recovery. Rule: max 3 consecutive active nights; BHA always borders a recovery day. Do not re-attempt Wed BHA.

2. BHA Demoted to Luxury

Salicylic acid is a conditional recommendation in 2024 AAD guidelines with low-quality trial evidence; adapalene already owns comedone prevention with strong evidence. 1×/week is pore maintenance, not a pillar. 2× was never evidence-mandated.

3. Face Reapplication Codified

The q2h rule previously named body only. Face reapplication (balm in pack) is now an executable step with Diffey timing: reapply ~20–30 min into exposure, and after soak-through sweat. Brimmed hat added to hardware.

4. Photosensitivity Rationale Corrected

FDA controlled study found 2% salicylic acid does NOT increase UV-induced erythema, DNA damage, or sunburn cells (glycolic acid does). Adapalene is photochemically stable. SPF stands on desert UV alone. Needs no help from actives.

5. October Gate Staggered

Requires a stable baseline first. Azelaic enters first, 3–4 clean weeks, then retinal. Two simultaneous new actives = unattributable flares (applying the one-variable rule to the roadmap).

6. Depth-Over-Breadth Path Named

Adapalene photoaging RCT evidence lives at 0.3%, not 0.1%. When more anti-aging is desired, the proven lever is concentration (adapalene 0.3% or Rx tretinoin), not adding product classes.

7. BPO Trigger Clause Added

Benzoyl peroxide is the guideline's strongest-recommended acne active and was silently absent. Now a named omission with explicit trigger conditions.

8. Sunscreen Fleet Alignment

Updated to match live practice: Bioré added for going-out days; balm for field reapplication; CeraVe zinc confirmed on orbital-rim duty.

9. Vitamin C Operational Logic

Fridge storage, small bottles, discard at amber. AM wait compressible; missed mornings cost nothing (skin reservoir saturates in ~3 daily applications, ~4-day tissue half-life).

10. Occlusion Wording Precision

Softened from "dangerously" to "meaningfully" multiplies penetration. Direction was right, adverb overstated. Sunday-only slug rule remains unchanged.
